Wednesday April 17 and Wednesday April 24 the Stumptown Ice Den will offer a drop-in power skating class.  Ages 7-11 from 7:00pm to 8:00pm.  Ages 11-adult from 8:00pm to 9:00pm.  The class will be instructed by our own skating professional Chad Goodwin.  The fee is $15.00.

The co-rec league is starting next Thursday March 14th. Attached are the teams and the schedule for your viewing pleasure. I will get the info onto the website this afternoon. Every team gets 7 games. Should be fun. Registration fee is $25.

In only their second year of existance, the Glacier Nationals have made the NORPAC playoffs. The boys face off tonight against the West Sound Warriors in the Warriors’ home rink in Bremerton Washington. Game two of the 5 game series is tomorrow, March 6th, also in Bremerton. Game 3 will be back here at The Stumptown Ice Den on Friday night March 8th. The puck drops at 7:30. Game 4(if necessary) will be Saturday the 9th again at 7:30pm. If the series goes to a game 5, that will be here Sunday March 10th at 6:00pm. Come support your Glacier Nationals.

Check out the action on Saturday, March 2 when they play the Missoula Maulers. There will be plenty of action. Puck drops at the Stumptown Ice Den at 7:30. If you haven’t made a game this season, this will be a great one to attend.

Glacier has been much improved this season, with a combined record of 17-19-3 in the AWHL and NORPAC junior hockey leagues.  They are eligible for the NORPAC playoffs if they can finish ahead of the Tri-Cities Outlaws.  Currently Glacier has 37 points, one point ahead of Tri-Cities at 36.  Glacier plays their next two games against the Missoula Maulers who have secured the 4th spot in the AWHL.  Tri-Cities finishes their season with two games against the NORPAC leading West Sound Warriors.  West Sound is 6-1 vs Tri-Cities this season.  Glacier is 0-2 vs. Missoula.

This past week another Adult Rec title has came home to the Flathead.  Jim Barone has been organizing teams to play the annual Bozeman Winter Classic for three years.  This year they finally hit pay-dirt.  This year there was a new twist at the Winter Classic, all players were required to use wooden sticks.

Not a traditional Storm team, this one was assembled with players from all over the country.  An unending array of friends and family members of Storm regulars, brought in all the connections.  The result was surprisingly a team that gelled quickley, and  played well together all weekend.

Game 1 started out with a solid performance against Salmon, Idaho,  winning 6-1 on Friday.  Salmon went 1-2-0 on the weekend earning the Storm 6 pts in the strength of schedule rankings.  Game 2 was another solid performance against Red Lodge 3-0.  Red Lodge,  who had and extremely tough schedule and were much better than their record, went 0-3-0 earning the Storm 4 pts.  Game 3 was the showdown against the powerfull Rams team, who won the tournament 2 years ago, and finished 2nd last year—The Storm held on for a 2-1 win.  The Rams went 2-1-0 earning the Storm 10 pts in the standings, for a total of 20 pts and the # 1 seed for the finals.

The Budmen went 3-0-0 beating Red Lodge, the Flying Zambonies(Bozeman) and the Boilermakers earning 19 pts and the spectators went 3-0-0- earning 18 pts, which dropped them to the 3rd place game.  So the finals were the Storm against the Budmen.  The game was scoreless after the first period, in the second the Storm got 2 goals from Mark Erickson to make it 2-0 after 2.  In the 3rd the Storm got a late goal from Brant Bristol and the win was sealed, 3-0.  For the first time in five years, the trophy had been stolen from bozeman!

The first ever Glacier Nationals vs. Adult league All-stars game will be Wedneday January 30th at 9:00pm. There is no charge to come watch the Nationals play against Ryan Ulvin, Bob Purvis, Leif Haugen, Marc Nastase, Heath Root, Barrett McDonald, Neal Buffington, Keith Ridgway, Kyle Hackett just to name a few. This no-checking, full slapshot game promises to be entertaining.
